Jury Duty Scam
The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a
summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of
birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any
of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen.
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma , Illinois ,
and Colorado . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation
over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with
the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on
their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

BOYS BASEBALL
We are currently holding registration for Albemarle teams for ages 7-12. Please register at the Rock Creek Park office. The cost is $40 for Albemarle residents and $60 for non-residents. The registration deadline is February 29th.

Wagfest
April 19th at the YMCA Park, the purpose is to raise awareness of homeless pets in Stanly County. To help find the loving homes, and to benefit both the Stanly County Animal Rescue League as well as Stanly County Humane Society. The event will consist of a Pet Parade, which will be a walk- a-thon style function in which participants will raise money from various donors to walk in the parade. Prizes will be given. Costume contest and look-alike contest. Concessions and live entertainment will also be part of the bid day.
