ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION'S WALK WITH EASE

Do you have arthritis, joint pain, or stiffness? Exercise has been shown to offer health benefits to people with joint-related symptoms. Because of this, the Walk With Ease walking program was developed specifically to help people with arthritis safely incorporate walking into their lives. "Walking Works! A risk-free anti- aging treatment, a way to reduce pain and a foolproof method for losing weight- WALKING DOES IT ALL!" This program is geared for individuals with arthritis and for those who want to continue to be physically active (if you use an assistive device, please do not let this detur you). You will be taught how to walk safely and comfortably. The Stanly County Senior Center will start this program Monday, July 21st at 10am at the County Commissioners Meeting Room at the Commons. This program can be done individually, on your own, or in the 6 week class setting that will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week. Please call 704/986-3769 to register by Friday, July 11. Because it is part of a research, assessments will be done on July 16th (someone from UNC will call you to schedule a time). To complete this program independently, on your own, please contact UNC at 866- 396-6240.

SOCCER CAMP

The largest soccer camp company in the United States, Challenger Sports, has been invited to host one of their British Soccer Training Camps right here in Albemarle with the Parks and Recreation at Albemarle Soccer Complex during the week of August 4th - 8th.

The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger's British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs. Challenger will hold over 1,800 British Soccer camps this summer and will coach over 90,000 players between the ages of 3 and 18.

Challenger Sports has become the largest soccer camp provider in North America by combining consistently high quality, age specific soccer instruction, along with equally important elements of character, cultural, and nutritional education.

The British Soccer Camp is more than a week of drills and skills. In addition to taking part in a daily regimen of foot skill development, technical and tactical practices and daily tournament style plays, each child will also be treated to a rich cultural experience and lessons on teamwork, sportsmanship, self discipline and health and nutrition.

The most popular part of each camp is the Camp World Cup. The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up cheers, bring flags, dress up and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.

Each camper will receive a free camp t -shirt, soccer ball, free gift and player evaluation. In addition, any child who signs up online at least 45 days prior to camp will receive a British Soccer replica Jersey (value $30) at www.challengersports.com
